MANON LESCAUT
LITERARY ADAPTATION - 90'
2010
Amiens, 1713. Des Grieux is a noble young student, wise for his years, who\'s preparing to become a knight of the Order of Malta. With a fine future as a teacher of rhetoric ahead of him, he meets a young commoner, Manon Lescaut, a candlemaker\'s daughter. It\'s love at first sight. Des Grieux plunges into love as if it were a religious calling. The couple runs away together to Paris to save Manon from the convent.
In Paris Manon finds her brother Christian, who understands, as she does, that their love is impossible. Encouraged by him, she takes a rich lover, Girardin de Matois, to keep her in the comfort she requires. This is just the first of a long series of obstacles the young lovers will have to face. Des Grieux loves without judging, learning to cheat, steal and even kill when necessary, as he and Manon are forced to go on the run.
